Update

Update on the transport: looks like the hauler will pick up/deliver around the middle of September. That may leave me with some logistical issues with the launch and getting the boat 2 miles down the channel and into it’s slip, but I always seem to manage, so I’m not to worried.

In the meantime, I’m gathering parts. I ordered a new masthead wind vane from LCJ Capteurs of France. It is ultrasonic (no moving parts) and digital, so this will be a definite upgrade. They don’t distribute to the USA, so I had to go to a French distributor for one. The translation process was fun as their English was not so good and my French is non-existent. We got it done, however, and it will be on its way to the USA soon. Of the limited options available, this was the one that seemed to fit my application best. It was also the best compromise between price/performance/features I could find.

Also, struggling with what to do with the ancient old anchor windlass (which is currently holding up the mast on deck). Was going to have to shell out $1,200 for a shiny new, single speed Lofrans, when my ol’ Westsail buddy, Ron Elder of W32 Summer Wind informed me he had a completely rebuilt Simpson Lawrence 555 Sea Tiger he was going to sell. Score! Saved me some money, time, and hassle while upgrading to an old standard. I’m very happy.
